Stefano Nepa and Albert Arenas stay one step away from Q2 positions at the opening free practices of the 2020 World Championship

The Moto3 World Championship has started today, in the evening, at the Losail circuit, where the 31 riders of the lightweight category have started the Qatar Grand Prix with two free practice sessions. The Spanish Raúl Fernández has set the best time of the day (2:04.577), with Darryn Binder second and Sergio García third. Tomorrow, Moto3 riders will have one last free practice session that will decide who goes directly into Q2 and who will have to find his place in the grid through Q1.

The Aspar Team has started the season in Qatar, where Stefano Nepa and Albert Arenas have finished just off the provisional Q2 positions. The Italian rider has been 56 thousandths of a second faster than his teammate and has placed sixteenth. Nepa values positively his first day with the team in this new season and highlights that tomorrow's goal will be to reduce those thousandths to try and enter directly into Q2. His teammate Albert Arenas finishes the first day of the Qatar Grand Prix with good feelings, but dissatisfied with his fast lap since, in his attempt to set a good time and ensure a good position, he has not been able to complete a good lap. That lap time that allows him to enter Q2 will be the pending task for the last free practice session of the GP.

16th Stefano Nepa 2:05.612 (+1.035): “The first day of the Grand Prix has been very positive. In the morning I have resumed the good sensations of the tests and in the afternoon we have tried to find a fast lap. My best lap has not been perfect, but has allowed me to get into the mid positions of the general standings, a few thousandths off the Q2 positions. Tomorrow, the goal will be to get into those positions. I feel good with the bike, this is the most important thing we have.”

18th Albert Arenas 2:05.668 (+1.091): “It was a two-sided day, because I am happy with the set-up, but not with the fast lap. I made a mistake because I was looking for a slipstream and this has been harmful for me because I have not been able to complete a clean lap. We have to concentrate on the positive, the pace and the situation in which we are with the hard rubber, because both are good. Tomorrow we will try to get that lap that takes us to Q2.”
