The MotoGP World Championship organization has announced the cancellation of the MotoGP category due to travel restrictions imposed by Qatar

The Moto2 and Moto3 categories will open the season this weekend in Qatar, in the Grand Prix held from March 6 to 8 at the Losail circuit, where both Aron Canet and Albert Arenas ranked in the top 10 in their respective categories in the preseason tests that concluded yesterday.

Dorna, FIM and IRTA have only announced the cancellation of the MotoGP category due to the travel restrictions imposed by Qatar due to the coronavirus, but the organization maintains in its program the celebration of the Moto2 and Moto3 categories. The teams in these categories, including Aspar Team, were already in Qatar since last week, working on the last pre-season test.

The Aspar Team supports the decisions taken by the organization of the World Championship to ensure the safety of the participants, the teams’ staff and everyone who is involved in the competition.

Jorge Martínez “Aspar”, CEO Aspar Team: “The Aspar Team is ready to start a new World Championship season, but at the same time it is watching closely the latest news and recommendations of the organization. We are in contact with Dorna, we understand that it has been a very thoughtful decision, that we respect and support.

The main objective is to guarantee the safety of staff, riders and spectators who love this sport. The team is now in Qatar since last Wednesday, working on the preseason tests, and will remain there until March 8, the day of the Qatar Grand Prix race, as this restriction only affects travellers travelling to Qatar from March 1. We will continue to follow the recommendations of the different governments of the countries that host the competition and the organization itself.”
